What is American Immersion Theater?

American Immersion Theater does not have actors, but “Immersioneers!” We're a national company that utilizes our immersioneers to help create truly immersive experiences that audiences fully participate in. From acting in our award-winning murder mysteries, to creating memorable experiences as a Princess or as Paparazzi, our mission is to create opportunities that empower people to participate. As an Immersioneer with AIT, you'll provide our clients with unforgettable experiences that go beyond just watching a show. Together we break the fourth wall and make everyday people a part of the story. You'll provide people an escape and help our clients believe that they can be part of something bigger.

Over the years, we have sprouted roots in 23 troupe locations across the United States, but we still operate where we were founded in Grand Rapids, MI. American Immersion Theater is a small, independent theatre company that has been family run by the original founder, Scott Cramton, since 2002. At Headquarters, we employ only a couple dozen people who help maintain our close ecosystem of passionate immersioneers who are the real powerhouses of who we are and what we do.

Meet the Founder, Scott Cramton
Scott was raised in Detroit, Michigan, and was born with a severe cleft pallet. His father worked hard to provide Scott with vocal training, speech therapy, and the care he needed to speak, all while being employed at a factory and yearning for the stage. Scott inherited his father's love of performance, and, when a therapist told him he couldn't be an actor or public speaker, he became driven to prove them wrong. It goes without saying that he did.
Scott was originally a haunted house designer before he and some local Grand Rapids actors started GR Improv. The group began their journey by performing murder mysteries every few months at local restaurants while Scott worked at Art Van to make ends meet. In 2009, Scott quit his day job to focus on what soon became American Immersion Theater.
Scott and his wife India (and their two cats, Remy and Midnight) still run the company. He occasionally acts in shows with the company, writes every script for AIT, and helps run the day to day here, all while being tragically bald. Although he missed his hair, he’s still living his dreams of empowering people to participate.
